Post-Graduation Work Permit Program – International Mobility Program

Introduction:

Welcome to our website, where we delve into the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) in Canada. The PGWPP offers international students who have completed a recognized program of study at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada the opportunity to gain valuable work experience after graduation. In this article, we will explore the details of the PGWPP, its eligibility criteria, and the benefits it provides to international students seeking to launch their careers in Canada.

Understanding the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program:

The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) is a program administered by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It allows eligible international graduates to work in Canada for a specified period after completing their studies. This program serves as a bridge between academic life and professional career, enabling graduates to gain valuable Canadian work experience, contribute to the Canadian workforce, and potentially transition to permanent residency.

  1. Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for the PGWPP, international graduates must meet the following criteria:

a. Completion of a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) Program: Graduates must have completed a program of study at a DLI in Canada, which can include a degree, diploma, certificate, or other recognized credentials.

b. Minimum Program Duration: The program of study must be at least eight months in duration for graduates to be eligible for the PGWPP.

c. Full-Time Studies: Graduates must have maintained full-time student status during their program of study.

d. Valid Study Permit: Graduates must have held a valid study permit throughout their studies in Canada.

e. Application Timeframe: Applications for the PGWPP must be submitted within 180 days of receiving the final transcript and official completion letter from the DLI.

Work Permit Duration:

Under the PGWPP, graduates can obtain an open work permit, allowing them to work for any employer in Canada. The duration of the work permit depends on the length of the program of study completed. Graduates of programs that are at least eight months but less than two years in duration are eligible for a work permit for a period equivalent to the duration of their program. Graduates of programs that are two years or longer may be eligible for a work permit of up to three years.
