Eligibility to Apply for the Federal Skilled Workers Program (Express Entry)
- Work Experience: You must have at least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in a skilled occupation within the last ten years. This experience should be classified under Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations), Skill Level A (professional occupations), or Skill Level B (technical occupations and skilled trades) of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English or French by providing valid language test results. The accepted language tests are the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for English and the Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF) for French. Minimum language proficiency scores are required for each of the four language abilities: speaking, writing, reading, and listening.
- Education: You must have completed a minimum of secondary education, which is equivalent to a high school diploma in Canada. Educational credentials obtained from foreign institutions must be accompanied by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an approved organization to verify their Canadian equivalency.
- Proof of Funds: To demonstrate your ability to support yourself and any accompanying family members upon arrival in Canada, you must provide proof of funds. The required amount varies depending on the size of your family. These funds can be in the form of liquid assets, such as cash, bank statements, or other easily convertible assets.
- Express Entry Profile: All applicants must create an Express Entry profile and be accepted into the Express Entry pool. Your profile will be evaluated based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. You will be assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which will determine your rank within the pool.
